Overview
SAFTY™ provides quick and accessible service to families by providing specialized crisis intervention, risk assessments, in-home support, and connection to County mental health services or other appropriate services for youth experiencing a mental health crisis. SAFTY seeks to keep youth and families safe in their homes and communities. All calls to the SAFTY crisis hotline are good calls if you are concerned about your youth’s mental health.
Who is Eligible?
Any youth in Santa Barbara County ages 0-21 may call the crisis line. Youth ages 0-21 with full-scope Medi-Cal are eligible to receive SAFTY proactive services.
Referrals
Anyone may refer youth to the crisis line, and/or to our proactive SAFTY services. Clients and families with full-scope Medi-Cal can self-refer by calling the crisis line.

How SAFTY Works
The goal of the SAFTY Program is to prevent psychiatric hospitalization and decrease the use of emergency rooms, law enforcement, and juvenile detention for mental health crises by helping families develop:
- Coping strategies
- Conflict resolution skills
- Communication skills
- Safety plans for managing crises in the future
SAFTY provides children’s crisis services in collaboration with Santa Barbara County Department of Behavioral Health Mobile Crisis Teams. The SAFTY Program is sponsored by the Santa Barbara Department of Behavioral Wellness.
