Family Urgent Response System (FURS)

Overview

The Family Urgent Response System serves as part of the system of support for children, youth and caregivers by providing immediate response to situations before they escalate into placement disruptions, law enforcement contacts, and psychiatric hospitalizations. By providing support early on, FURS seeks to prevent conflicts from escalating and leading to a crisis or disruption in the relationship between the child or youth and their caregiver.

Who is Eligible?

Any current or former foster youth ages 0-21 and/or their caregivers across the state of California may call the FURS Crisis line. Any current probation youth ages 0-21 (WIC 602) across the state may call the FURS crisis line.

The statewide hotline and local mobile response teams are available 24/7/365.

How FURS Works

FURS includes a statewide hotline, as well as local mobile response provided by Casa Pacifica in Santa Barbara County, which offers immediate trauma-informed support to current and former foster youth, along with current probation youth, and their caregivers.

Casa Pacifica SAFTY Hotline for Santa Barbara County: (888) 334-2777

FURS filters calls through the hotline first, and when a situation cannot be maintained over the phone, the state hotline worker calls Casa Pacifica and provides a “warm handoff” with the information for an in-person response. Casa Pacifica’s mobile response FURS team is comprised of compassionate, trained professionals who are available to provide face-to-face, personalized support such as in-home de-escalation, stabilization, conflict resolution, support services and resources during critical moments.
