On Campus Volunteering

On Campus VolunteeringQuality and attentive Volunteers who give their time and skills are welcomed in various areas on campus: tutors, teachers’ aids and activity assistants in the areas of academics, life skills, recreation and vocational training.

The process for a potential volunteer is to attend an Orientation where you will receive detailed information about Casa Pacifica, tour campus, attend training with training staff and determine if your schedule and skills will match campus schedule and needs. Once you have attended the Orientation you will proceed with filling out an application to start the on campus volunteer registration.

We would like to thank you for your interest in our Volunteer Orientation scheduled for February 23rd, 2013, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Please note that the February 23rd Orientation is now full!  We look forward to meeting you at our next Volunteer Orientation to be held in July 2013 - date to be announced. Casa Pacifica Wine & Food Festival

We need numerous student and adult volunteers to help us put on Ventura County’s premiere wine and food tasting event. Students are eligible to earn community service hours by working the day-of event. Adults are needed and encouraged to help with event set up as well as 1-hour shifts on Sunday, the day-of event. Please note that volunteers who also plan to attend the festival will need to purchase tickets. Please join us as we try to raise much needed funds to help abused, neglected and at-risk children and their families. For more information and to register:

Tutoring

Our preschool, non-public and county schools need tutors during and after school hours. Preschool children need teachers’ aids to assist with reading, storytelling, developmental skills, social skills, and playtime. The schools need volunteers to tutor students in reading, math, electives and homework. One-to-one assistance gives students the time and attention they need to excel in school.

Activities

Volunteers are needed to assist counselors and supervisors in developing and implementing activities with a therapeutic value. These include sports, team events, cultural activities, dance, music, and arts and crafts. If you have any special talents that you would like to share, please call our volunteer coordinator.

Independent Living

This program teaches children basic life skills. Volunteers are needed to teach social, hygiene, cooking, cleaning and laundry skills.

The Cottages-Shelter/Residential

In the cottages (crisis care and residential treatment), volunteers are needed to assist with homework, reading, outings with staff and any other after-school projects and activities.

Vocational Education

Students ages 13+ are offered a four-week training program in which they learn skills for finding employment in many areas on and off campus. The training program covers applications and resumes, work ethics, professionalism, career counseling and role-playing interviews. If you are interested in assisting in this program or being a vocational speaker, please call Carrie Hughes, Director of Development and Public Relations at (805) 366-4011.

Cloud 9

Cloud 9 StoreBuilt by dedicated Angels and on-campus volunteers, Cloud 9 is Casa Pacifica’s on-campus student store. The store represents a unique incentive program as children must earn behavior points in order to shop. Points are earned through a number of tasks including positive participation in cottage, classroom, and on-campus activities.

All points earned are used as “dollars” during Cloud 9 Day, an event both volunteers and children look forward to. The store is full of items like makeup, CDs, snacks, stuffed animals, toys, books, video games, Walkmans and CD boom boxes. More than buying power, the Cloud 9 program offers our children the opportunity to understand the responsibilities of money and the reward of proper behavior.

Cloud 9 solely offers products donated by generous community members and businesses. Steady and up-to-date supplies are always needed and, of course, appreciated by the children.

If you are interested in Campus Volunteering please contact Cloud 9 at (805) 366-4015 or e-mail: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
